Financial Aid Options
Many students preparing for college and their parents are surprised to know how many options there are to pay for college. While different types of aid may be available to some students but not to others, there is usually some form of financial aid for anyone who applies. To help you get the most out of your college experience, you should know what types of financial aid you might qualify for. Below are brief descriptions of financial aid options available through UHEAA. Select the any of the links below for more detailed information.
Loans
Money you borrow from the Federal government or from your school to finance your education. Students in Utah can borrow under three Federal loan programs: the Federal Perkins Loan (if your school participates in this loan), the Federal Subsidized Stafford Loan, and the Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan.
Grants
Money you receive from either the government or your college or university. Different from student loans, you are not required to repay grants if the money is used to assist you in your higher education. There are several types of grants available to Utah students.
Scholarships
Similar to grants, scholarships don't need to be repaid. Scholarships are often available to more than just straight-A students (although good grades don't hurt!).
Work Study
A form of financial assistance available to students who work
on-campus while enrolled in school.
