2009 HHS Poverty Guidelines and Income Percentage Factors Released

Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority has learned that Federal Student Aid (FSA) released the 2009 Health & Human Services (HHS) Poverty Guidelines and Income Percentage Factors. The Poverty Guidelines and Income Percentage Factors are used in determinations related to Title IV loan repayment.

For the Income Contingent Repayment Plan the HHS Poverty Guidelines and the Income Percentage Factors are used to calculate a borrower’s payment amount. The Poverty Guidelines are used in determining a borrower’s eligibility for the Income-Based Repayment (IBR) Plan. IBR, a new repayment option, becomes effective July 1, 2009. The Poverty Guidelines can also be used when determining a borrower’s eligibility for an Economic Hardship Deferment.

Details on the effective dates for use of the 2009 HHS Poverty Guidelines and Income Percentage Factors can be found by using this link to the FSA Electronic Announcement: http://ifap.ed.gov/eannouncements/052209PovertyguidelinesandIncomefactors.html.
