U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Issues 2009 Poverty Guidelines

Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority reports that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has issued their annual update notice on poverty guidelines. Last calendar year’s increase in prices as measured by the Consumer Price Index are accounted for in these updated  2009 guidelines. The poverty thresholds are used as an eligibility criterion for the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Economic Hardship Deferment, the new Income Based Repayment plan that becomes effective July 1, 2009, and for a number of other Federal programs.
