Review of Recent Announcements

As a service to its participating schools and lenders, Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority offers the following review of recent announcements and releases from the U.S. Department of Education, Federal Student Aid, and related sources.  These reminders cover topics of general interest and importance that relate to the administration of federal student aid.

Electronic Announcements

Summary: Federal Student Assistance announced the availability of an updated electronic 2008-2009 Federal School Code (FSC) List of Participating Schools.

Summary: When processing the FAFSA, the Central Processing System (CPS) conducts a match of applicant data with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). If manual Secondary Confirmation is required, the school must submit the Immigration Status/Document Verification Request (G-845) form. The DHS Verification Number is requested on page 1 of the form.  FSA now indicates that if the G-845 form is received without a DHS Verification number, the school will be contacted.

Summary: The second Pell Grant Administrative Cost Allowance Payment for the 2007-2008 Award Year has been sent by Federal Student Assistance. ACA payment amount notifications were sent to reporting schools. Schools that need assistance, or that did not receive an ACA payment are invited to contact the COD School Relations Center at 800/474-7268, or by e-mail at CODSupport@acs-inc.com.

Summary: Announced by FSA was the addition to the CPS Web Demonstration site of a 2008-2009 ISIR Analysis Tool. The demo site, which preloads with 500 test ISIR records, enables interested schools to examine features such as standard and ad-hoc report generation in a mock-production environment.

Summary: The recorded June 17, 2008 live Internet briefing on the recent changes enacted to the Title IV federal student financial assistance programs by the Ensuring Continued Access to Student Loans Act of 2008 (ECASLA) has been made available by FSA. The briefing also included information on the requirements and provisions of the TEACH Grant Program that became effective July 1, 2008.
