Draft 2009-2010 FASFA Available
Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority has become aware that Federal Student Aid (FSA) posted a draft of the 2009-2010 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). FSA is inviting comments and suggestions.
Among other changes, the Worksheets page has been eliminated, and the majority of the data elements have been incorporated into the body of the application. A TEACH Grant question has been inserted, the veterans education benefit questions are reformatted, and “dislocated worker” is added to the list of criteria qualifying applicants for the Simplified Needs Test and or the Automatic Zero EFC.
A very significant change is the expansion of the dependency criteria. Now included are questions to identify applicants who were in foster care, who may be emancipated minors or minors in legal guardianship, and those who have been verified as unaccompanied youth who may be considered homeless.
The IFAP notice, containing a summary of the changes and the draft FAFSA, is available at http://ifap.ed.gov/fafsa/0801SummaryChanges0910FAFSA.html.
