Reminder for 2005-2006 Renewal Free Application for Federal Student Aid

The U. S. Department of Education (ED) has reminded schools that changes to the renewal application process included the e-mailing of Renewal Reminders and PIN Mailers to students instead of sending paper Renewal FAFSAs for 2005-2006.  (Please see http://www.ifap.ed.gov/eannouncements/0209RenewalFAFSA.html.)

Because the E-mail Renewal Reminder and PIN Mailer process is new to some students, they may have overlooked the Renewal Reminder or PIN Mailer and may be expecting to receive a paper Renewal application in the mail.  Whether or not students have missed or ignored the E-mail Renewal Reminder, they may still file a 2005-2006 Renewal application on the Web using their PIN.  Students who have forgotten their PIN may go to the PIN Web site (www.pin.ed.gov) to request a duplicate.

With deadlines for aid fast approaching, schools are urged to request students to apply for federal aid as soon as possible.  Of course, students have the option of filing a regular, non-renewal application, either on the Web at www.fafsa.ed.gov or by filing a paper FAFSA.
