Distance Education Demonstration Program
 
    The U.S. Department of Education (ED) recently released a notice in a Federal Register, dated September 22, 2000, inviting applications for participation in the Distance Education Demonstration Program.  The Federal Register also gives notice of regional meetings designed to provide technical assistance to parties interested in participating in the Distance Education Demonstration Program.  As authorized by the Higher Education Act (HEA), as amended, selected institutions providing distance education programs may receive waivers of specific statutory and regulatory provisions authorized under Title IV of the HEA.

    Applications for participation must be postmarked or submitted electronically on or before February 16, 2001.  Submissions should be sent to Ms. Marianne R. Phelps, U.S. Department of Education, 1990 K Street NW., Room 7112, Washington, DC  20006.  Applications sent electronically should be sent to the following address: DistanceDemo@ed.gov.
