Notice of Proposed Rulemaking Concerning the Federal Family Education Loan Program

The U.S. Department of Education (ED) recently released a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) in an August 10, 2000 Federal Register regarding the Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program in the Federal Family Education Loan Program.  The proposed regulations incorporate provisions contained in the recent reauthorization of the Higher Education Act (HEA).  The proposed regulatory changes impact the following sections of 34 CFR:

Part 682-Federal Family Education Loan Program
   Sec.   682.211   Forbearance.
   Sec.   682.215   Teacher loan forgiveness program.
Comments regarding these proposed changes are due on or before September 25, 2000.  Submissions should be sent to Ms. Beth Grebeldinger, U.S. Department of Education, P.O. Box 23272, Washington, D.C.  20026-3272.  Comments may also be sent electronically to TEACHERNPRM@ed.gov.
