Campus Crime Data Collection Using the Internet

The U.S. Department of Education (ED) recently released a Dear Colleague Letter (DCL), GEN-00-11, regarding ED's plan to collect campus crime statistics using the Internet.  Final regulations concerning these new reporting requirements can be found in a November 1, 1999 Federal Register (see UHEAA Bulletin Volume 88 - Issue 80.)  As you know, providing this data is required by law as a condition of an institutions continued participation in the federal student financial aid programs.  The DCL requests institutions' assistance to ensure that all campus administrators responsible for compiling the data are aware of the web-based data collection and the importance of reporting this information within the prescribed timeframe.

A copy of this DCL can be found on ED's web site at http://www.ifap.ed.gov.  If you are unable to access this web site and would like a hard copy of the letter, please contact Stacey Roberts at (801) 321-7211.  Any questions regarding this Bulletin should be directed to the UHEAA Policy and Training Department at (801) 321-7166 or by e-mail at cjudd@utahsbr.edu.
