Notice of Proposed Rulemaking Concerning the Perkins Loan Program

The U.S. Department of Education (ED) recently released a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) in a July 27, 2000 Federal Register regarding the Perkins Loan Program.  The proposed regulations incorporate provisions contained in the recent reauthorization of the Higher Education Act (HEA).  The proposed regulatory changes impact the following sections of 34 CFR:

Part 674-Federal Perkins Loan Program
   Sec.  674.13 Reimbursement to the Fund.
   Sec.  674.39 Loan rehabilitation.
   Sec.  674.49 Bankruptcy of borrower.
   Sec.  674.50 Assignment of defaulted loans to the United States.
