New Regulation Highlights for Lenders and Schools
As you know, new final regulations were issued by the U.S. Department of Education (ED) in October and November of 1999, incorporating provisions contained in the 1998 Reauthorization of the Higher Education Act (HEA). These new regulations contain changes to many requirements for participation in and the administration of Title IV programs. These regulatory changes have been addressed in previous UHEAA Bulletins. They have also been the subject of ED training sessions and publications. In an effort to highlight some of these new regulations, the Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority (UHEAA) has complied the following brief list of provisions that may need special attention from lenders or schools.
The issues highlighted in this UHEAA Bulletin are not intended to be a comprehensive list of changes made due to the new final rules. For a more thorough description of each new regulation, its effective date, its intent, or its related statutory and regulatory citation, please refer to the appropriate Final Rules Federal Register (including preamble language), other ED publications, and Common Manual Policy Updates. Any questions concerning this Bulletin should be directed to the UHEAA Policy and Training Department at (801) 321-7166 or by e-mail at cjudd@utahsbr.edu.Note: ED has provided the following contact information
